Criw Cymraeg
Cymraeg Campus
As a school we follow the Cymraeg Campus language charter, which inspires our learners to use Cymraeg in all aspects of their lives. In the Summer term 2024 we achieved the efydd (bronze) award as a school. Criw Cymraeg were responsible for leading the implementation of the charter across the whole school. We are currently working towards our Arian (silver) Cymraeg Campus award.
Criw Cymraeg
We currently have 7 members in our Criw Cymraeg. They enjoy undertaking responsibilities to ensure that Welsh is spoken inside and outside the classroom.
Our responsibilities include:
- Leading gwasanaeth Cymraeg every fortnight where we hand out certificates the Saiardwr yr Wythnos (Welsh speaker of the week), introduce braweddeg y pythefnos (phrase of the fortnight), lead a Welsh prayer and choose a variety of Welsh music.
- The Criw Cymraeg help to organise Welsh days e.g. Diwrnod Shwnae, Dydd Miwsig Cymru, Santes Dwynwen and Dydd Gwyl Dewi.
- They also help to lead our yearly school Eisteddfod.
- As a Criw Cymraeg we invite Welsh speakers into the school. This includes meter iaith to develop our Welsh yard game skills in order to encourage everyone to speak on the yard. We have also had Welsh performers comer into school to help us learn some Welsh songs.
- We meet together to discuss and work on new projects and targets for the school.
Clwb Cymraeg
Every week, the pupils from Derbyn-Blwyddyn 2 (Reception to Year 2) have the opportunity to attend Clwb Cymraeg to further practice their language skills in a fun way. Activities include Ipads and painting.
